How To Get Giratina Arceus Complete Encounter Guide

Tracking down the Legendary Renegade Pokémon Giratina is one of the most exciting post-game challenges available in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Unlike standard encounters across the Hisui region, securing Giratina requires completing specific storyline milestones, battling powerful trainers, and tracking the creature to its secluded lair. Understanding the exact prerequisites ensures a smooth path to adding this Ghost and Dragon-type powerhouse to your roster.
Unlocking the Post-Game Storyline and Plate Quests
Before you can locate Giratina, you must complete the main story campaign and see the credits roll. Following the main story climax, your next objective is to collect all key elemental plates scattered across the region by completing legendary requests assigned by Cogita and Professor Laventon. Once all plates are gathered, you will unlock the climactic battle against Volo at the Temple of Sinnoh.
Defeating Volo and the First Giratina Battle
At the top of Mount Coronet, players face Volo in one of the most demanding battle sequences in the game. Immediately after defeating Volo's team, Giratina attacks in its Altered Forme, followed directly by its Origin Forme without healing your party in between. Note that you cannot capture Giratina during this initial confrontation, so focus entirely on knocking it out using Fairy, Ice, Dragon, or Dark-type moves.
Locating Turnback Cave and Request 91
After defeating Giratina at the temple, return to Jubilife Village to receive Request 91, titled On the Trail of Giratina, from Professor Laventon. Head over to the Cobalt Coastlands and travel to the northwest corner of the map around the Spring Path. Climb up to the spring and enter Turnback Cave, where Giratina awaits in its Origin Forme.
Capturing Giratina and Changing Formes
Save your game manually before approaching Level 70 Giratina to avoid accidentally knocking it out. Reduce its health carefully and utilize status conditions like Drowsy or Paralysis before throwing Ultra Balls or Gigaton Balls to secure the catch. Upon a successful capture, you will receive the Griseous Core item, which allows you to toggle Giratina between its Altered Forme and Origin Forme at any time.
